“Joanna Tags” are now available to Georgia motorists and proceeds from the sales  fund the mission of the Joanna McAfee Childhood Cancer Foundation.

About 5000 tags have been sold so far and the response has been incredible.

A unique feature of the tag is the silhouette of Joanna Rae McAfee with outstretched arms.

Joanna lived in Tampa, FL and Warner Robins, GA with her parents Jeff & Misty McAfee and older brother, Paul. She was 3 1/2 years old when she was diagnosed with Stage IV Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of pediatric cancer.  She spent half of her life undergoing one excruciating cancer treatment after another without complaint, while deeply touching many lives with her sweet spirit, amazing determination and childlike faith.   On December 22, 2005, our sweet Joanna took her last breath and left this Earth and her suffering behind.  What a beautiful, wonderful child our world was blessed with for six years!    [more of Joanna’s Story...]

Though the updates have become less frequent, we still maintain Joanna’s Caringbridge site with journal entries kept during her courageous fight, guest book entries from many special people, and more pictures.  We will forever love talking and writing about Joanna.  She could be such a little entertaining character one moment, then a mature precious child, wise beyond her years, the next. She was one of the best parts of our lives and forever will be.

Your prayers are very much appreciated, as we try to smile & continue through our days as we promised Joanna we would. We have found that few things help us more than being together and pouring our hearts into this foundation. We are sincerely grateful for your support.

FAQ: What does it cost?

There are two costs above and beyond what you currently pay for a tag:

1) A Secialty Tag Manufacturing Fee of $25.

2) A Specialty Tag Renewal Fee of $25 (due upfront when tag is received, renewed annually).

FAQ: Why does the DMV site indicate it cost $70 to get a tag?

Neither the DMV website nor the clerks at the tag office break out the costs so that it is easy to distinguish between what you currently pay vs. what it costs for a “Joanna Tag”.

Without a specialty tag there is a $20 sticker fee that everyone has to pay annually to renew their tag.   The $70 as adverised on the website  includes not only the costs associated with the “Joanna Tag” ( $25 Manufacturing Fee and $25 Specialty Tag Annual Renewal Fee) but also the $20 sticker fee that you currently pay.  The original purchase of your “Joanna Tag” is only $50 more than you would normally pay.

The DMV also states that the Annual Renewal Fee is  $45.  The includes not only the $25 Specialty Tag Annual Renewal Fee but also the $20 sticker fee that you currently pay.  The annual renewal fee for your “Joanna tag” is only $25 more than you currently pay.

FAQ: How can I get one?

Visit your local tag office or complete the Vehicle Registration Renewal Form sent to you by your local tag office.  [Click here for instructions]
