Queen For a Day, August 12th, Macon, Georgia |
|
The Joanna McAfee Childhood Cancer Foundation sponsored and participated in the Queen For A Day event held August 12th, 2006 at the Children’s Hospital at the Medical Center of Middle Georgia. We are planning to have a similar event for the little boys sometime in the fall that will have a hero theme. This was not a fundraiser event but rather a support event consistent with one of the JMCCF’s mission objective of providing support to cancer kids within the Middle Georgia area and their families. It was a wonderful time such a blessing for JMCCF to be able to participate. The day was all about forgetting about chemo, forgetting about treatments, and just having fun... girly style. Each little cancer patient (and their siblings) got to dress up and have makeup professionally applied with a manicure. They wore princess dresses, donned tiaras, and were presented roses. Then each little girl got to sit on the princess throne and have her picture made. The princesses were so excited to learn Cinderella was also coming to the party. The Queen For A Day program was founded by Miss Florida 2004, Jenna Edwards, who wanted to help raise the self-esteem and self-confidence of little girls with cancer (www.qfad.org) The program’s mission is to host parties at cancer facilities and prides itself in giving the girls manicures and makeovers. The program does not discriminate on the basis of age and has crowned girls from 17 months of age to 21 years old. She also has a similar program for little boys called Heros. It was quite a day. Thanks to Misty McAfee for chairing this event for the JMCCF, to Ciao Bella for providing the make up artists, makeup and so much more. Thanks to all the volunteers and wonderful ladies at Central Georgia Pageant System for another fantastic event. JMCCF Event Volunteers:
